Whilst on holiday in Devon we were driving over Dartmoor and saw the sign for Princetown Information Centre so we decided to visit. Set right next to Dartmoor Prison this was a lovely village and I was amazed that the prison was right in the village. (I am sure I have seen lots of old black and white films where prisoners broke out of Dartmoor straight onto the moors!) We found a lovely cafe for lunch and then went to investigate the Information Centre.
we were expecting a normal Information Centre with information about the surrounding area and yes, we found that. But there was also so much more. There was an exhibition about Dartmoor during the war (it seems German prisoners of war were sent here to work). Another exhibition was about Sherlock Holmes and my daughter in law and grandson had a great time dressing up in the appropriate costumes (see photo).
There were also a lot of interactive things for my grandson to do and also a rather scary video film about “the hand” of Dartmoor!
Visiting Dartmoor? Take a quick detour here and you won’t be disappointed!
