For a lovely break in south Devon the Dart Marina Hotel in Dartmouth is a very special place. Everything is done to make you feel welcome and at home from the doorman who helps you in and out with your luggage to the friendly and helpful reception staff and the housekeeping, bar and restaurant staff too. This magnificent hotel is situated on the banks of the River Dart, below the Britannia Royal Naval College with stunning views along the river. The excellent shops and restaurants of Dartmouth are but a short walk away. The bedrooms are spacious and luxurious with beautifully comfortable beds, spotlessly clean bathrooms, large sitting area and storage space and also a fridge which is stocked with fresh milk on a regular basis. There are, of course, tea and coffee making facilities with a teapot and a coffee pot which is unusual but very welcome. There is free wifi in all rooms (just collect a code from Reception), an excellent TV and, best of all, wonderful views of the river. There is a car park for residents just outside the hotel and a pass for this is given at check-in. The River Restaurant which holds an AA Rosette is magnificent and the food is local, fresh and beautifully cooked. This is fine dining and the quality and presentation of the food and service quite took our breath away. Even the Devonshire Afternoon Cream Tea, which we had one afternoon during our stay, was exceptional and, in fact, lasted us for 2 days and we stored some in our fridge in our room. The Elemis Spa is next to the Hotel and you can use the facilities for no extra charge whilst staying at the hotel. It is a lovely place with a pool, Jacuzzi and steam room and they offer treatments and massages too. One day we took the Higher Ferry, which runs across the River Dart from just outside the Dart Marina Hotel, to Kingswear on the other side (50p for pedestrians) and then we walked south along the river path to cross back on the Lower Ferry, into the town for lunch and then back to the Hotel. The Seahorse Restaurant is a lovely place, situated along the western bank of the River Dart in Dartmouth and was awarded Best Seafood Restaurant in the UK by the Good Food Guide for 2013. We enjoyed a superb lunch there. You do need to book because it is very popular. The Hotel offers late availability at special prices and all-inclusive offers. Just go to www.dartmarina.com to check them out. We enjoyed a superb stay there and would thoroughly recommend a visit to Dartmouth and a stay at this hotel in particular.
