We were eating at a Thai restaurant in Covent Garden and as we were early, decided to have a drink at the bar next door called “Dalla Terra”:http://www.dallaterra.co.uk/menus. It’s in a quiet courtyard and although it was a Saturday morning at the end of October, it was still pleasant enough to sit outdoors at one of the three tables (they have heaters but they weren’t needed).
After a few minutes, I realised I’d been there with a friend when we’d decided it was expensive and had quickly moved on.
However, having looked at the wine list, we found some reasonably priced bottles and settled for a Malvasia at £18.
The wine and two elegant glasses were brought to the table, but before the girl opened it, she asked if we knew the price. We said yes and then she explained that the three prices next to each wine, were not as we’d thought, for a glass, half bottle and bottle but for a small glass, medium glass and half litre. The full bottle was £29.
We said we felt that was slightly misleading in that whilst the headings for the columns were shown, it was an usual practice. She acknowledged this and said many people made the same mistake and this was the reason she’d checked.
The wine list is for serious connoisseurs not quaffers with many priced over £100. And so whilst the food sounds good and is more reasonable, it’s not somewhere I would go again!
