Relaxation

A truly quiet and relaxed award-winning holiday accommodation the Yorkshire Dales that represent excellent. affordable value for money.

The cottage is set in five acres of land, on a working farm. The owners have three labradors and are very welcoming in a traditional Yorkshire style. Crown Cottage Farm is situated in the small village of Embsay, two miles from the market town of Skipton, which has a colourful market on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There is plenty to see and do in the area, including exploring Skipton’s medieval castle, one of the best preserved famous castles in Britain, or you can take a canal trip on the Leeds Liverpool Canal which passes through Skipton’s Canal Basin.

The rural setting of our B&B makes it an excellent base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park. For walkers there is plenty of breath-taking scenery, with Bolton Abbey, Grassington, Kettlewell, Malham are all a short car drive away. Alternatively, the Dales to Hawes and Leyburn are close by. Harrogate and the historic city of York are also easily accessible.

We stayed there one night, with my wife and I in a double room and our daughter in a twin room (en-suite). The double room has its own bathroom across the landing (sole use as both twin rooms are en-suite). Accommodation was to a very high standard and there was lovely wood burning fire in the sitting room with comfortable seating.

Food was excellent and plenty of choice with your hosts happy to accommodate your dietary needs. Excellent pub food available in the village (two pubs). Highly recommend it and hope to revisit in the future.

Note: You need car to get there (own or taxi etc). Its on a hill in a very rural location. Bedrooms are upstairs so unsuitable for those with mobility issues.

UPDATE:
Hi, glad to see folk are actually reading my review! In response to one comment, yes I did cut and paste from the owner’s website but made amendments. However, I totally agree with what they say on their site as that was our experience. ESW asks for more info so here it is:

Q1). What the rooms were like and what facilities there were in each. What were the towels like – I often find that towels can let down a place.
A1). The rooms were smart, well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. Each room had tea & coffee making facilities with a little fridge for the milk, though we did turn ours off at night due to the slight hum. We switched it back on in the morning of course! Towels were ample, of high quality and the bathroom itself was very clean and modern. The shower was very good though our daughter said the one in her en-suite had a somewhat inconsistent flow, perhaps due to water pressure. However, we had no problems with ours (in the separate bathroom).

Q2). What is the breakfast like – what was the choice and did it set you up for the day?
A2). Breakfast choice was pretty standard but of high quality, with personal touches. The jams were homemade and had won awards. Plenty of choice for cereals. There was fresh juice and tea/coffee to our taste. The choice of cooked breakfast was varied (we and our fellow guests had 3 different variations of eggs – mine was salmon and scrambled eggs on toast, which I enjoyed immensely. I am trying to lose weight so I didn’t go for the Full English but no doubt if I did it would have ‘set me up for the day’ so to speak.

Q3). Did you eat in either of the pubs and what were they like?
A3). We ate supper in the nearest pub, the “Elm Tree Inn”:https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Elm+Tree+Inn/@53.9802458,-1.9880986,3a,75y,40.89h,87.99t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sN9Td5MS-42B6cyMWafMbYg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xd1e2d10d1d0fe7c4!6m1!1e1. The staff were very friendly, the food was of generous proportions and well presented. It also tasted excellent and was cooked to perfection. I particularly enjoyed the warm, friendly atmosphere, as one would expect of Yorkshire folk!

Hopefully this helps to get a better picture.
