Reasons for trip

Following on from my “review”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/place/146694-review-criccieth of 2014, I spent four nights in Criccieth on a holiday with Alfa Travel, stopping at the “George IV Hotel”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/accommodation/200274-review-george-iv-hotel in the centre of the town.

I had forgotten just how nice Criccieth is. It is one of those places that never seem to change, although new art work has appeared around the town but has been so cleverly done that it feels as if it has always been there.

It still retains a good range of shops, some of which have been trading for over 50 years (including the traditional shoe shop still with shelves full of boxes of shoes). There are plenty of very good craft shops specialising in locally made crafts. There is a very good butcher and I regretted not having a cool bag with me to buy meat to bring home. I can recommend the beef and vegetable pasties from the Idris Cafe. Their opening hours are 9-5 and I called in every morning to stock up on lunch. They have a good selection of filled rolls and cakes, all very reasonably priced. Don’t forget Cadwalader’s Ice Cream Parlour, and the “Castle Chippie”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/restaurant/148404-review-castle-fish-and-chips is as good as ever.

Ciccieth is a very attractive town to walk round. The older buildings are around Y Maes and some of the original small stone built cottages can still be found scattered around the town. As we were out all day, I didn’t manage to visit the castle this time as it was always closed when we got back in.

We were blessed with four wonderful days of autumn sunshine and one of the perks was to walk down to the beach and sit on one of the many wooden seats provided and watch the landscape turn golden in the setting sun.
