We spent a Friday night at Coulsdon Manor and enjoyed it. It is a BeSpoke hotel. There is a golf course attached and when we arrived during the afternoon the car park was quite busy with golf buggies etc though there was still plenty of parking space. After a friendly greeting we were allocated our room on the second floor and offered help with our luggage if we needed it as the lift was out of action. The room was a decent size with a desk and armchairs, overlooking the outside seating (unused in October drizzle) and some trees. It was spotlessly clean and had all the extras one would wish – kettle, coffee and tea, refrigerator, an iron, toiletries etc. The lighting is all from table lamps and in order to read in bed I had to remove the shade from my bedside light – not a problem but not ideal. The bed was comfortable and springy but the TV programmes very limited (e.g. BBC1 and 2 broke up continuously so could not be watched). Free wifi was a bonus.

We had booked dinner but were told there was a large group of golfers in the dining room and were told we could have the identical menu in the smaller dining room attached to the bar, this was absolutely fine with us. There was also a formal dinner in the banqueting room so the bar was busy until that started but the service was friendly and swift. Beer and wine were both typical pub prices so good for a hotel. I had the duck confit which was excellent; my husband had the scampi which he considered fine but unexceptional. Both my brownie and his chocolate icecream were very tasty. (Our bill, including 2 large glasses of wine, was £55). The cooked breakfast the next morning was made to order from a comprehensive selection and was good. The variety of fruit could have been better but was OK.

Overall we were very impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff and the overall value for money. We do not play golf and did not visit the spa and fitness centre so cannot comment on them. The hotel is beginning to look in need of some refurbishment – some patched carpets and a bit of ceiling paper coming off in the bar – but it is clean and attractive overall and we would happily go back if in the area again.
