Reasons for trip

Having previously enjoyed Cote’s November offering (2 courses for £10.95), four of opted for lunch in “Cote”:https://www.cote-restaurants.co.uk/cote/restaurant/details/coventgarden Covent Garden: although here, the “menu”:https://www.cote-restaurants.co.uk/Downloads/Cote%20Covent%20Garden%20Set%20Menu.pdf of 2 courses are £12.50 presumably to ‘rip off’ tourists or should I say, ‘reflect the higher rental costs’.

We all chose a different starter: mussels steamed in white wine and leeks, egg and bacon salad, terrine terrine (duck, chicken and pork liver) served with chargrilled sourdough and cornichons and parsnip soup. I had the soup and whilst it was creamy and smooth, I though it lacked that distinctive parsnip flavour.

At the High Street Kensington restaurant, Roy and I had looked longingly at each other’s plates and so for main courses we swapped: I had the French cottage pie (Hachis Parmentier) whilst he had cod goujons. Both lived up to expectations. Our guests equally enjoyed coq au vin, served in a lovely large white bowl, and sea bream with potatoes and beans.

I decided to indulge with a dark chocolate pot which was small, rich and heavenly.
With a couple of bottles of wine at £15.95 it turned out to be an excellent leisurely lunch. The staff were in no rush to get rid of us as we sat chatting and catching up on news.

At home, I signed up at www.cote-rewards.co.uk to get a voucher for a complimentary bottle of Chatuea Laurelie Bergeract or Cotes Du Rhone Rouge (both valued at £23.95). Although the catch is, it can only be used when you order from the a la carte menu and is only valid for a certain period of time.
