The pictures online do not do this place justice. We stayed just outside of town at the famous sand dunes. This is a 45 minute walk away from town or10 minutes by local bus. The buses are regular, comfortable, air conditioned and cheap. Only 2.80 euros for two into town.
The town has all the facilities you need and plenty of restaurants and bars. The main high street is spacious and well kept. It includes lots of souvenir shops but also fashion, two modern shopping malls, banks, etc. At the bottom of the main street is a little square that comes alive in the evening. Live acts play and the restaurants are very welcoming. A really pleasant atmosphere and way to spend an evening.
There was a good mix of people staying here, from young families, extended families, younger and older couples. No groups of 18 – 30’s. A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I did not see any rowdy behaviour.
The beach and ‘promenade’ runs along adjacent to the high street. Turn off right down the many side streets when walking down towards the square. There are small beaches to sunbathe and swim from. Plenty of places to eat with a sea view. Paella and sangria if you want it. We had an excellent Paella on the front. The beaches are golden and sandy. The best beach being the ‘dunes’ beach, of course, with it’s miles of beautiful soft white sand but decent beaches in town too with shallow, clear warm water. We spent a couple of days and one evening here out of our two weeks stay.
You can catch a ferry here to Lanzarote, do water sports, catamaran trips and visit the lovely little uninhabited island of Lobos. We took an inflatable speed boat over from the harbour for 13 euros each (there and back). There is a small beach and cove near the drop off point to paddle or swim in. A little place to get ice cream and refreshments. I was impressed that the government/local council have built a shelter from the sun where people can rest . There are many walks around this volcanic island. I’d have liked to explore it more.
All in all Corralejo is well worth a visit.
