Reasons for trip

We had a bit of trouble getting to this hotel as it was listed as being in St Julians but it was actually further over in St George’s Bay so the bus from the airport dropped us a hot half hour walk away – we should have done our research first! When we arrived at 2.30 our room was still not ready despite the fact that check in was supposed to be 2.00pm. it was a very nice lobby to wait in though and it only took about 10 minutes to get us sorted.

Once we got to it we were very happy with the room, a nice size, fabulous large balcony with a great sea view, large comfortable bed, tea making facilities, decent TV ( though programmes we found were limited and it was 20 euros for a movie which we thought very expensive) and a good marble style bathroom. It was located near Paceville but not near enough for it to be a problem; we could hear no noise other than the crashing of the waves. The hotel had a nice spa on the lower ground floor with a small heated pool and a Jacuzzi and in general the facilities were very good. The air conditioning seemed rather noisy and not awfully efficient but we were able to open the window to the balcony for air so it was not too bad, probably more of a problem in the hotter months.

Breakfast the next morning and all week was very good, a large range of buffet items including cheeses, salads, fruit, home made yoghurt, pancakes with cream, fruit and maple syrup, a range of breads ( delicious local bread) and cupcakes/ apple cake. The cooked section was more limited for us as vegetarians as there was only scrambled egg with beans etc – no potatoes or hash brown and certainly no veggie sausages. You could get an omelette cooked to order though. We found sadly that the evening did not match up to this as the main restaurant never had anything vegetarian on the menu and the “casual” dining, Henry J Bean, had a single veggie burger, take it or leave it. We left it and went elsewhere every night as there were a number of restaurants about 15 minutes walk away and many, many more a short bus ride away. The hotel also ran a courtesy bus to Valetta, Sliema and St Julians several times a day but the last one back was 4.30pm so you could only use it in the day.
