THE HISTORICAL CENTER: one of the most beautiful historic centers of Greece, guarded by two Venetian fortresses and since 2008 a UNESCO world heritage site. Hundreds of shops under shaded arcades, hanging wires that overlook intricate alleyways and little churches everywhere. And yet, five-storey houses from the Venetian era, elegant cafes like almost in Paris and tavernas where you can eat well. Even if you stay somewhere else, don’t miss the historic center of Corfu day or night. To see Agios Spiridonas the most important church of the island, half of the faithful who come on pilgrimage to the tomb of the patron saint of the island. Vlacherna Monastery: near the Kanoni cafe, some steps lead to the embankment that connects Corfu to the islet of Vlacherna where a convent stands. Built around 1700 the Vlacherna monastery is a wonderful subject to photograph. The island of Pontikonisi called “island of mice” can be reached by boats from the embankment in two minutes. Here the empress Sissi loved being considered a very romantic islet with tall cypress trees that cover the view of the small 12th century Byzantine church, which stands out on the highest point of the island.
