We decided to spend a week away from British February weather. Cyprus seemed a good choice – daytime temperatures around 20C and a low chance of rain. We choose Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel, as it had excellent reviews both on the internet and from friends and was an adults-only hotel. We were not disappointed.
Note that the hotel is adjacent to, but not part of the Constantinou Bros Athena Beach Hotel.
We booked directly with the hotel and chose the low season inclusive offer which incorporated an upgrade to a junior suite plus some dining options. From the moment we arrived staff were friendly and very helpful. Our generously sized room had all the facilities we could wish for including a good balcony with a superb sea view. Our tariff covered local and some imported drinks and cocktails; in addition drinks not included in the deal were available at half price.
Breakfasts in the Oasis Restaurant were excellent. Buffet lunches in the Pygmalion Restaurant were o.k. – we tended to choose salads with either cold fish (tuna or squid) or cheese. Weekday dinner, also in the Pygmalion, was somewhat disappointing – hot meat and fish dishes were nothing special; the daily choice of meat or fish grilled to order was of better quality but portion size was small. Saturday was a Gala Night in the Pygmalion and the choice and quality of the food was much improved.
Our tariff allowed us to take dinner on two occasions at the Aphrodite a la carte restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed both our meals here, especially imported Aberdeen Angus steaks. We did not sample The Olive Tree Restaurant which specialises in Mediterranean food. However it appeared to be very popular.
Also popular was the hotel bowling green, not for us, but very well patronised. At night we relaxed with a drink or two in the main lounge, chatted with other guests and listened to local musical artists.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Royal Beach Hotel. Like many hotels Constantinou Bros Hotels have a Loyalty Club offering special extras to members. Now that we are members we look forward to returning to the Royal Beach, perhaps in November or maybe next February.
