Reasons for trip

We arrived in Clitheroe by train, after we left Bolton we travelled through some very beautiful scenery and it took approximately 50 minutes. The first thing we noticed was that the high street was full of independent retailers, ranging from pie shops, through gift shops with quality gifts through to formal dress and wedding dress shops. We followed the road over the hill, past the castle to Holmes Mill. This is a complex comprising of a brewery, beer Hall with good food, my husband said their steak and ale pie was the best one he’d ever had. The bar claims to be one of the longest in the UK and if it was laid out as one it probably would be. Next door is a shop selling very unusual food stuffs and unusual gins and whisky. There is a bistro here too which whilst we didn’t eat here we overheard a lot of people saying how good it was. We then walked back to the station via a couple of, by our local prices, very cheap but good beers. As we have generally found up North the locals were always very friendly.
