We went on a week’s holiday on a canalboat trip. There were just two of us, and we were a bit apprehensive, but we’re given training on how to manage the locks, and maintain the boat, clearing weed from the rudder, filling the water reserve etc. The boat was huge, very long to turn round and navigate. We soon got the hang of it though, but we found the lock winding handles a bit hard to turn. There was usually willing help around, and we met some lovely people, other boaters and walkers. We went on the river Severn, which was very fast flowing and we found it difficult to stop at the pub where we wanted to stop for the night. Again, other boaters helped by calling to us to throw them a rope! The pubs in general were great, with good food and company. All in all a great holiday!
