Reasons for trip

If you’re looking for something different to try for international food besides the old run of the mill, try “Chicha Peruvian Street Kitchen”:http://www.chicha-liverpool.co.uk in Liverpool. I selected Spanish for food type because Peruvian isn’t on the list and Spanish was the closest one. This restaurant only opened in the summer of 2016. According to its website, it was named one of the top three South American restaurants in England by the Sunday Times. However, we didn’t know that when we were looking for some dinner after a chocolate overdose at (“Hotel Chocolat”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/restaurant/176470 ) and decided to try this restaurant on Bold Street. This was the first visit for all of us to Chicha and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant is brightly decorated and our server, Pablo, was very helpful and efficient. The music was as lively and flavourful as the food.

We were hungry but weren’t looking for a massive meal and the small plates on their menu were just the ticket – they do have large plates as well. We all started off with Banos del Inca, a non-alcoholic cocktail that looked and tasted very festive (elderflower and pomegranate cordial, lemon, chuncho bitters and ginger ale). We shared eight small plates and all tasted everything: Polla alla brassa – chargrilled chicken with aji verde sauce; roast chicken chowder; sweetcorn and feta pancakes, avocado puree and jalapeño chutney; Halloumi; goats cheese and smoked paprika tequeño, rainbow beetroot carpaccio and spicy guacamole; Peruvian potato and mackerel fishcakes, balsamic beets and tarragon aioli; soy and sesame pilaf rice; and sweet potato chips with Parmesan. If any of the photos look a little blurry, I can only attribute it to the sugar and alcohol consumed earlier in the evening. The total bill was £47.50 – a bargain for all the delicious food and drinks especially considering the drinks were £12.00 of that total. It was a great way to try a number of different dishes. There is a lunch special of three small plates for £11 which I’ll keep in mind for the future as there is lots of choice and it was difficult to decide what to try.

We passed on dessert because of our pre-dinner sweets at Hotel Chocolat; another time maybe.
