The Manor is an old building, built around 1460 with additions made in the 16th century and was visited by both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. It is still a private house but open to the public at various times, normally Wednesday and Thursday afternoons during the spring and summer. We visited as part of a coach party on a very wet day in early May.
The gardens were beautiful despite the rain, the tulips being particularly attractive. I do not think we appreciated the more open parts of the garden because of the weather but saw enough to know that they would be lovely on a pleasant summer day.
We had a guided tour around the house; I think if you come as an individual you will be given a timed ticket for your tour. This tour was very interesting as our guide knew the complicated history of the building and its various residents as well as giving us information about the furnishings etc.
We also went into the well house and saw what had been recovered by local divers from the water. We then had time for tea and homemade cakes in the restaurant and a short look at the shop.
This was an enjoyable afternoon which would have been much improved by going on a day when it was not pouring with rain.
