I need to get away on my own and had always wanted to visit the Eden Project so started looking for accommodation nearby, it being the height of summer this proved to be a problem so I ended up in Charleston as there was a single room at the Pier House Hotel.
I was lucky. Charleston is a delight and it was their regatta weekend. I had planned on a day at the Eden Project and a day at The Lost Gardens but changed my plan and skipped the Lost Gardens for the charms of Charleston and the regatta. So Instead I spent the day sitting on the pier watching the children fearlessly jumping from it’s end into the sea far below, watching the racing and enjoying the sun. Bliss. Then lunch in a wonderful restaurant with live jazz to entertain, followed by a walk along the coastal path.
The Pier House hotel overlooks the harbour and has single rooms. Unfortunately single rooms tend to be the ones at the back of the property and without the views, but at least I was not having to pay for a double. It was comfortable and clean, had very helpful staff and I loved having breakfast on the terrace looking out to sea.
I traveled to St. Austel by train then took a taxi to the Pier House, about £10, and the taxi to the Eden Project, £10.
