The Chaba Cabana it is definitely not a 4 star but a very low 3 star hotel. We were booked to stay in what they call a Deluxe Villa which in actual fact was a very shabby dark & dingy room along a public walk way so it was like being in a goldfish bowl. We upgraded to the only room left which was a suite this was better but still a bit shabby & in need of total refurbishment, as is all of the hotel. All the staff are friendly but some understand English better than others, however, the ones in the bar always look inward & try to avoid eye contact in case you might want serving. On the beach when the umbrellas get blown about none of the staff ever come to help. In the only restaurant the food is nice but overpriced compared to others in Chaweng, the singer they have sounds more like a scalded cat & it’s painful to listen to him droning on in pigeon English. The breakfasts are good with plenty of choice but apart from the eggs cooked to order the food is cold. At lunch they serve the same food in the bar as in the restaurant but for half the price !!. The pool is a peculiar shape so is not really very good for swimming although the people who use it are mainly in for the so called swim up bar. The hotel is ideally located at the end of Chaweng beach which is lovely, the sea has very clear water but it’s pot luck if the tide is in. Just a stroll along the beach of about 15 mins brings you into town with numerous bars & restaurants the best one we found was The Islander with delicious food at rock bottom prices with superb service no wonder it is always very busy, next door is the Legends bar with good music & cocktails only 100 Bht. The lady boy’s cabaret show is a must as it’s very entertaining lasts 1 hour with free entry but very expensive drinks when you come out they want to have photos taken with you this comes at a cost !!. A must is a visit for a massage / manicure / pedicure I can recommend the one on the beach next to Your Place with a pink board outside lovely friendly girls who do a great job. On the whole we enjoyed our holiday but we would not stay in this hotel again as it does not represent good value for money and compared to other hotels in Chaweng it is completely inferior.
