Reasons for trip

Not far from our Tel Aviv Hotel, was a restaurant called “Centro”:http://www.centrotlv.co.il/ which we walked past frequently but had not got around to visiting.

On Shabbat, our intended breakfast café was closed but Centro looked open, although we were their first customers of the day. Located on a corner, there’s lots of pavement seating with trendy mis-matched tables and chairs of all description and size and lovely tiffany lamps. We chose a booth in the early morning sun, ordered coffee and based on price (around £10), decided to share a sandwich of pomegranate bread full of tahini, roasted peppers, squash and lettuce. it was very good and plenty for both of us. We lingered over a second coffee and watched Tel Aviv come to life.

Later in the morning, we passed again, and as it was our final day, stopped for a glass of cava served with a very moreish cherry at the bottom. The place was filling up with lunch-time customers and having secured a table, we decided to stay and have lunch as well.

We shared a starter of whole cauliflower with tahini which whilst sounding boring, was absolutely delicious. Continuing our virtuous, healthy themes, we shared another salad of quinoa with lots of ‘bits’ chopped into it and broccoli florets. We also splurged on a bottle of cava which was presented in a rather grand silver chiller but when the young girl opened it, the cork flew out and nearly hit another diner who was less than impressed.

We were glad we eventually got to eat there, as it had a good menu, with reasonable prices and the service matched our final day, relaxed mood.
