Cavens Hotel is a peaceful retreat tucked away in the village of Kirkbean, one mile from the Solway, in Dumfries and Galloway.
The staff are attentive, but discreet and the chef proprietor, Angus, provides wonderful food much of which uses local produce. A real taste of Scotland.
We arrived on a wet and miserable day to be warmly greeted , our luggage and elderly parent taken care of, and a cup of tea with cake provided. The rooms were comfortable with lovely views across the gardens to the Solway. The rooms were well equipped including a DVD player if the weather prevented any excursion. There is also one downstairs room for anyone unable to climb the stairs.
On a nice day we could have sat outside or even indulged in a game of croquet, but we found plenty to do in the surrounding area.
For a quiet break with comfort and good food we felt this was an excellent choice.
