We travelled to The Cavendish in Torquay with National Holidays for a 4-day break towards end of March this year. We were looking forward to it. When we arrived at the hotel we were impressed at first until we got to our room – on the door the metal surround of the lock was hanging off, the ceiling light above the door had been removed so we were in total darkness trying to put our key in the lock. On entering the room I went to the bathroom and found there was no hot water! They eventually gave us another room which was better apart from the fact that the bathroom was small and if you stood at the sink and bent over your bum pushed the door open because it was immediately behind you. The waiter forgot to serve us our pudding one evening and we decided to wait until he had realised – it was a full 10 minutes. He also kept forgetting that my partner was dairy intolerant. When we asked for another bread roll the waiter told us there were none left, but as we left the dining room we saw a bread basket full of bread rolls. When I told the waiter that I had not been given a butter knife he said there were none left. My partner managed to find me one from a empty table nearby.
All in all not a vey pleasant experience. Shan't be going there again.
On my return home I wrote to the operator, I was told I should have reported my complaints to the coach driver. By the way our driver rated the hotel as a B! I did notice that the coach drivers (about 4 of them) did receive good service and possibly their rooms were better then mine.
