The Castle Hotel in Aberaeron holds a Columbian Night every now and then so, this month we decided to try it.
There was a fascinating range of foods to choose from – once the waitress explained what they all were! With a choice of just 3 starters to share, OR 2 courses for £15, OR 3 courses for £17.50, this was good value. We did, of course, opt for the 3 courses and were really happy with our choices as we could then sample a range of foods.
Starters were Empanadas – meat fritters in corn pastry with a tangy dip – and Patacones which were crispy yellow plantains (like mini bananas) with a fish and tomato salsa. Though tempted by the baked hake, we went for Brocheta al Carbon – grilled beef skewers with a green sauce – and chicken in a corn sauce with salad. The foods were all perfectly cooked, very tasty and brightly coloured.
As a Columbian Night we had to try the coffee crème brulee which was soft and smooth with a crunchy coffee flavoured topping. Although we expected to choose a red wine, the chef recommended a dry white (£14.95) which was actually very good. We had a great evening, lovely atmosphere and excellent service so now waiting for the next event – a Polish Night.
