Reasons for trip

After wandering around Seville’s old Jewish quarter with its narrow streets, we found Casa Roman which had a good write up in our Rough Guide. There were four small tables and stools outside and even though it was February, because they were in the sun, it looked perfect. Unfortunately, they were all full. We wandered round the block, rejecting a rather chatty woman who was desperate to entice us into her bar. We returned to Casa Roman to find a couple in the throes of paying their bill. We hovered and grabbed their seats when they left. Whilst waiting, an older male waiter who was in and out, managed skillfully not to catch our eye. Even after we’d got sat down, it was still a while before he brought out menus and when he did, it was obvious he’d not been to charm school. We ordered a couple of beers (only small ones were available) and boquerones en vinagr, tortilla de jamon, pimientos asados and Morcon ibercio extra (thick chorizo). Two slices of grilled aubergine arrived, instead of the boquerones, along with the pimientos and chorizo and we thought he’d forgotten the tortilla which arrived later having been freshly cooked.. With a couple more beers the bill came to €18.55 and although he didn’t deserve it, we left €20. It was the only time he smiled.
