The Casa Mila, also known as La Pedrera, was constructed in the early 20th Century and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a very fine example of Gaudi’s work, Catalan Modernist, ambitious and very beautiful. It has several innovative features in terms of construction and function, and ornamental and decorative solutions, that broke the mould of architectural styles of the time. We not only learnt a lot about the artistic side of its beauty, marvelling at its use of organic form which is very pleasing to the eye and to the touch but also about social history. The ticket price includes a very good and not tedious tour audio guide in many languages to choose from. Everything is well signposted with a lot to see and some exhibitions. It is still lived in. The ubiquitous exit through the gift shop is worth stopping at as well. A thoroughly interesting and well spent morning.
