Reasons for trip

There are two disabled parking spaces in the cathedral precincts but these do need to be booked in advance and are accessed through the Postern Gate on Burgate. Paths around the precinct are either concrete or cobbled. Most are level apart from that round the east end which has a slight slope.

There are no toilets in the cathedral, although there is a disabled toilet in the precinct, at the east end of the cathedral.

The Cathedral has three wheelchairs which can be booked in advance.

There is level access into the nave through the north door. There are several flights of steps in the cathedral but there are lifts available for wheelchair users or visitors with reduced mobility, apart from the Trinity Chapel which is inaccessible to wheelchairs. A touch screen computer has text and images. There is also a film about the cathedral which can be viewed in the audiovisual. Ask at the Welcome Centre on arrival.

There are plenty of staff around the cathedral, recognisable by their sashes who can help.

The two small shops in the Cathedral are accessible. The main Cathedral shop is reached up a slight ramp and through automatic doors. Inside there are six steps to the lower level and fifteen steps to the gallery on the first floor, with handrails on both sides. Staff can help to show items that may be out of reach.

Assistance dogs are welcome.
