As micro-breweries are rapidly growing, this is a good one to try next time you are in Cardiff. It is a Brains Craft Brewery, owned by them but run independently. The micro-brewery opened in 2012, focusing on smaller batches, more experimental, with over 100 craft beers. Apparently, you can visit the Craft Brewery at Brains site behind rail station in Cardiff, and their website gives lots of fascinating facts about its history.
The Cambrian Tap is a traditional old pub near to the central train station, at the bottom of St Mary’s Street (the Clock end), with beautiful leaded windows and some high bench tables/seats. It is a great atmosphere and staff are very helpful, knowledgeable about their beers and able to offer you a small taste first if you are trying to decide. Try the pale, quite sweet smooth beer – Thunderbolt – even I liked this and I am not a beer drinker.
They do have a limited menu of hot food but basically it is traditional pub.
