Reasons for trip

We recently had an overnight stop in Calais on a shopping trip and we stayed at Ibis Tunnel Sous La Manche. There are 3 Accor hotels in the complex to suit any budget. Cité de l’Europe is just over the road and it’s handy for the town and the Coquelles and Sangatte beaches. There are police based in the Ibis hotel, I chatted to the cleaner about it and they’ve been there for 3 years as a command centre, and they’re likely to be staying there indefinitely. I particularly like this as there are quite a few police cars and police coming and going through the night, so I reckon that it’s the safest hotel car park in Calais to leave all your shopping in the car overnight! Their presence certainly isn’t intrusive so I would recommend it. One warning – you are quoted a GB£ price on Accor’s website but you have to pay in euros, so you end up paying more in currency conversion/bank charges. If I stay there again I’ll contact the hotel directly and ask if I can book and pay cash on arrival. It may be a standard hotel chain room with not much character, but it is adequate for a one night stay. It’s pet friendly too, when returning to the UK we stayed in Accor hotels with our 2 cats.
