Reasons for trip

This is a lovely building, renovated in 1944 by owner of cafe established in 1837. It has a real old-fashioned feel with traditional and contemporary art works on the walls between ornate mirrors and frames. It is easy to access and a favourite with tourists and locals alike, though only street parking fairly nearby.
We sat inside as it was early evening and much cooler than daytime, so when the sun is shining the large outdoor area in the square is the favourite. Staff were very friendly and the wide menu is same inside and outside. You need to make sure you are sitting in the right area in the square as tables are next to ones that belong to the next restaurant which we found to have terrible service.
The Maltese platter is a perfect choice to share (a bit too much for one person) and is a great way to sample local bread, meats, olives and sun-dried tomatoes. We still managed to leave space for a dessert which was deliciously smooth and creamy. So, great service, good prices and very satisfactory bottle of local La Torre wine.
