Reasons for trip

We were room only at the Hotel Corona and wanted somewhere nearby for breakfast. After trying a couple of OK places, we walked in a different direction and found “Cafeteria Mayerling”:http://mayerling.es/cafeteria-mayerling-alhamar/ with six payment tables. There was a couple of empty tables to chose from when we arrived and, as one was in the sun, it was the obvious choice. Very soon they were all occupied – this is a popular place but with high turnover. We started with a café con leche and green tea with mint (real leaves) and shared a tostada con tomate: a very Andalucian breakfast of a toasted roll with pulped tomato smeared on top. It was all excellent and very pleasant to be sat outside and it became our regular breakfast haunt.

We also tried it late one afternoon when we wanted a drink before returning to our “hotel”:http://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/accommodation/158811-review-hotel-corona-de-granada . We had a tinto verano (red wine with lemonade) and vino blanco which came with a complimentary tapas of a small dish of pulpo (octopus) in vinegar and four huge fried fish fillets. A second round of drinks came with yet more tapas – six pieces of meat on the bone in a spicy dressing with chips underneath and two pieces of bread. We daren’t have a third drink.

The restaurant also does a three course set menu of the day for under €10.
