Reasons for trip

We must confess that we had never heard of the Buena Vista Social Club before going to Cuba. The chance to see them was one of the Virgin trips whilst in Havana and we could either see them at the Hotel de Nacional de Cuba or at a local venue – La Taberna restaurant – where you had a meal before watching them. The Virgin rep said we were unable to book as they had their quota but suggested we went to the venue (La Taberna in Old Havana by the main square) direct which we did on the day before. We decided to book the meal as well as the show and only had to pay a deposit with the balance to be paid on the night.Think we paid about £30 each but I might have this wrong!? The restaurant was lovely (see photos) and the evening was fantastic!! The food & service was good too considering how busy it was – the place was packed! Sadly I cannot include any photos that I took of the band as the images were on the camera that was stolen from our Hotel in Jibacoa (separate review). Thank goodness I took camcorder footage otherwise I would have nothing to remind me of this fantastic evening! Apparently this Cuban ensemble have been to the UK and toured all over the world! Some of the original members have since passed away but there is one original member left! Do not miss seeing the Buena Vista Social Club if you have the chance!!
