It was quite by chance that we came across Broomhill Sculpture Gardens as we were driving to our hotel on the first day of a weekend away in North Devon. We returned the next morning and spent a good 90 minutes walking through the woodland trails admiring a vast array of sculptures. You could easily spend longer.
There is an art hotel in the grounds with a newly refurbished restaurant which is open to non residents. We didn’t eat there but it smelt delicious. The indoor art gallery is now situated in the restaurant and you can go and look even if you are not dining. I would recommend going early to appreciate the paintings and sculptures before people start eating.
I believe there are 300 sculptures on show. There’s something there to suit all tastes.
A babbling stream weaves its’ way through the lower gardens making it the perfect place for meditation or just a bit of time out.
At only a fiver for adults, it was a very cheap couple of hours entertainment and I’d totally recommend it if you like art or want to go somewhere different for a good workout. It is set in the hills with some steep inclines to access some areas.
