Reasons for trip

We visited “The Britannia Inn”:https://www.stonehouserestaurants.co.uk/nationalsearch/northwest/thebritanniainnliverpool?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gmb twice in one day; for morning coffee at the beginning of a walk along the Mersey River and in mid-afternoon for a late lunch. It was the bank holiday Monday and as the day wore on more and more people were out enjoying the lovely sunshine.

In the morning however, the pub was quite deserted of customers and staff. They hadn’t been open long and had a full array of hot breakfast food on offer from the buffet but we were just looking for coffees and toast before heading to Otterspool. We finally managed to hunt down staff to pay for our food. We made our coffees and toast and headed outside for our pick of tables. We could already tell that it was going to be a warm day.

Later in the afternoon we had headed back to the Britannia Inn as it is a larger pub that the one at Otterspool which was full to bursting with a huge queue to get a table. The Britannia Inn was just as busy but at least it is a bigger place. We managed to snag a large round table – we were five adults and two dogs – and a couple of us headed inside to check out what was on offer and get us started with drinks. Between us we had consumed a lot of water on our walk but wanted something different for a change. It was such a hot day we didn’t really have much of an appetite so we ended up sharing a couple of burger meals though there was plenty on offer from the pizza oven, the carvery and main menu selection.

The food is reasonably priced; the drinks, not so much. However, it’s great to have this as a rest stop when you’re out for a walk along the river. On Mondays – Fridays from noon to 3:00 pm there is a special menu for those over 60: £4.99 per person for your choice of main and a drink.
