Looking for a quiet place to reflect, read, enjoy coastal walks, good food and local attractions seemed overwhelming during our search for places to stay on the west coast of Scotland. We picked up a brochure which had been placed at our hairdressers and rang the owners. They seemed delightful and offered us the chance to escape to their recently renovated cottage. So the journey began, it took us four hours to drive to our destination, armed with flask and sandwiches we set off in good spirits, it seemed strange that we were going on holiday without our dearly belated brother and husband David. We arrived at Brig of Tig Cottage and were pleasantly surprised, it was warm and welcoming, a welcome pack awaited us, the only decision was do we have a cup of tea, or crack open the complimentary bottle of wine and shortbread biscuits. We soon unpacked into our beautifully decorated bedrooms, got out of our clothes and put on the soft dressing gowns that wee left for our comfort and relaxed into the overly large armchairs. Heaven or at least that's what it felt like. We browsed the extensive literature and began to plan our forthcoming weeks holiday journeys. The cottage felt homely with a few added comforts to make our stay enjoyable, we stoked up the wood burner, which turned us into heaps of laughter wondering what David would have made of our attempts to get it going. To the front of the cottage was a lovely river with a secluded woodland area which was truly amazing and private. As the night drew near, we closed our window blind and finished off the wine and supper, we had a choice of rooms to sleep all equally tastefully decorated and said goodnight. In the morning, we woke to the sun glistening through the blinds, birds were singing and the faint sound of the river running, truly idyllic. We were so pleased at our choice of cottage and location. The owners contacted us to ask if we required anything and to ensure that we were familiar as to how the electrical appliances worked, they had left us with a thoroughly detailed guest information folder for which we thanked them for. The cottage had a downstairs king size bedroom with en-suite and a separate down stairs bathroom, this was great as both myself and my sister-in-law often needed to go to the bathroom at the same time, The use of a washing machine and dryer was great for the occasional days that we got wet and needed to dry out our clothes. There were plenty of reading materials, books, magazines, brochures and a dvd player with plenty of films and games for our entertainment. As we sat outside enjoying the odd day of sunshine, we enjoyed the peace and quite of the country side with only a five minute drive to the beach. the cottage was well lit for our late night returns after our days out and it was always welcoming to enter the cottage which was always warm. We have since been back to Brig of Tig Cottage and it feels like home from home. The owners continually make changes to ensure that guest comfort is paramount, providing scented candles, and exquisite toiletries for guest use. We loved the wildlife and the ease of access to the property. The owners have thought of everything and we have yet to find that there is something that they have not thought of. Brig of Tig Cottages can also be found on Cottages4you, property code W43218. It did not cost the earth and lived up to our expectations of a four star holiday cottage. Unfortunately our only disappointment would be that it would be difficult for someone in a wheelchair to access and perhaps this is something that the owners would consider in the future.
