The Bridal Veil Waterfall (Véu da Noiva) features in all the tourist itineraries and its picture is in all the guide books… It is very much a must see when visiting Madeira. It is on the north coast of Madeira coast between Porto Moniz and Sao Vicente.
The waterfall falls 350′ down a sheer cliff face and is viewed from a distance. In May there wasn’t a lot of water, so the description of ‘bridal veil’ is a bit of an exaggeration. Actually I was rather more impressed by the general view rather than the waterfall itself.
There is a small parking area with the ubiquitous tourist gift shop. Prices looked very competitive, especially for the goatskin slippers.
It is a lovely spot with Agapanthus growing wild along the verges. There are views back along the coast to Seixal and down into the very clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. You can also see the old road (no longer used) cut out of a ledge running along the hillside. Now that really did look a hair raising ride….
