Reasons for trip

This is next to the Premier Inn and is a convenient location just off the motorway on the edge of an industrial site.

We’d booked an overnight at the Premier Inn and had an evening meal and breakfast here.

It is a huge barn of a place and at 6.30 was very noisy with families with young children making the most of the pre 6pm bargain menu.

Orders are placed and paid for at the bar and then you sit and wait, and wait and wait… After an hour we grabbed a waitress to ask where our meal was. She disappeared into the kitchen and came back to say it was just ‘being plated up’. It was another ten minutes before it arrived.

It was a good “menu”:https://www.brewersfayre.co.uk/pub-restaurant-menus/Merseyside/Chapel-Brook-Huyton.html with plenty of choice. My beef and ale pie arrived shaped as a hand raised pork pie. You really could taste the ale in the gravy although there possibly wasn’t that much meat. It was served with mash and frozen French beans. The mash had been reheated and was dry round the edges.
At £10.99 it was reasonable value.

Son in law had the Ultimate Yorkshire Pudding with sausage and mash. The Yorkshire was HUGE – the size of a sheet of A4 paper! It certainly looked impressive at £9.99. Daughter had the three bean chilli which didn’t merit a comment. There was the usual children’s menu.

The bar had the usual selection of keg beers and an uninspiring selection of bottled beers. There was a reasonable wine selection which did seem reasonably priced.

Breakfast was good. Although advertised as starting from 7am on a Saturday morning, it was nearly 8am before the cooked breakfast was ready and out. This is kept hot under lights and was a good choice of bacon, sausage, eggs, black pudding, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms an,and baked beans. There was also ‘bubble and squeak’ which looked as if it had been reheated in the microwave rather than fried. I didn’t feel tempted to try it…

There was a good selection of fruit juice, cereals, fresh fruit salad and red berry compote along with yogurts and some fresh fruit. There was sliced bread for toast, crumpets, pancakes, croissant and pan au chocolate.

So, to sum up – good choice, reasonably priced BUT (and this is a big but) – be prepared to wait for your meal. This isn’t the place to come if you are in a hurry (and make sure you have something to entertain the kids while they wait…)
