Reasons for trip

The photos and description on Scotland’s Gardens Scheme’s website brought me out on this nice sunny morning.

I know where Braco is and, while having a morning coffee in Braco Coffee (in the village), asked where to find the castle and gardens. The gates are only a few yards away but the driveway is 1½ miles long, so take the car and park at the castle.

For a very reasonable £4 per adult, the gardens have neatly cut paths and are easy to follow. Some of the paths are good underfoot while others would be difficult for people with walking difficulties or needing wheels, choose your route with care.

I heard lots of wildlife and managed to catch a glimpse of a red squirrel, a buzzard and several hares. I’d like to visit again, perhaps with friends (I never saw anyone) and spend longer in the garden to see if the wildlife would overcome their shyness.

There are no facilities onsite, there’s no reception or visitor centre, nor are there any toilets. Remember the route you took to drive into the castle and make sure you take the same route out, the alternative road is not in good condition.
