Relaxation

The resort is situated about 20 mins walk outside the main part of Alcudia and a comfortable bus ride from the Old Town of Alcudia. There are shops, supermarket and bars, plus the beach all within 5 to 10 mins walk.

Accommodation
The site consists of small 2 story blocks of apartments and we stayed in apartment 312 a two bedroom apartment on the first floor. Each bedroom has twin beds which are comfortable enough but as the base is metal, the mattresses tend to slide a little during the night, so it’s hard to keep them together if you want to make them into a double. There is a bed settee, with pull out bed underneath, in the lounge but we put the mattress from the pull out bed onto the floor in one of the bedrooms (for the 2 year old), so that the adults had full use of the lounge after the kids went to bed. The infant had a travel cot in the second bedroom (charged for locally). One of the bedrooms contained a safe (also charged for locally). The lounge/kitchen had a table and 4 chairs plus a fridge, microwave, hob, coffee maker, TV and modest balcony. All of this was perfectly adequate for our needs, the biggest let down was the air conditioning. Despite getting the management to look at it 3 times (and them reporting it was fixed/working normally) it was hard to get the temperature of the apartment down to 23C and to do this required keeping the blinds drawn and the bedroom and lounge doors closed. Whilst this meant the bedrooms were cool enough to sleep in, the lounge became somewhat uncomfortable and the hall and bathroom were very hot. With the outdoor temp being over 30C in the day, I wouldn’t want to be here if the temp reached the upper 30sC or 40C. Maid service was provided 5 days out of 7 and kept the place clean & towels fresh. The bathroom had a shower but no bath.

Food/Drink
Breakfast and dinner were provided by a buffet service in the main restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was a good variety of good quality food available each day. In the main the food was simple fare, that suited the family make up of the clientele. There were ever present dishes like pasta, chips, paella, with a selection of (mainly grilled) meats and fish. The selection did get a little tedious over time but overall we enjoyed the food and liked the fact that special efforts were made for the children e.g. Plenty of fresh fruit, Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, plastic cups, plates knives and forks. As we had chosen all inclusive the bar provided a plentiful supply of locally branded drinks, both alcoholic & non alcoholic. Filtered drinking water was available here and in the pool bar on a self service tap. Lunch and a BBQ evening meal (one allowed free for our 10 night stay) was served at the poolside restaurant and bar. There was a plentiful supply of IKEA style high chairs available in both restaurants. Ice creams are included within the all inclusive package. Top marks for cleanliness and hygiene, none of the 6 of us suffered any type of stomach upset. There is a smart casual dress code for the evenings in the restaurant but shorts and crops are allowed.

Pools/Entertainment
There are effectively 3 pools. The main has an area sectioned of for younger children that gently slopes. There is a children’s pool which is comfortably shallow throughout, plus there is a pirates pool (also shallow). The latter was great fun with multiple slides to suit children of most ages. There are also a couple of playgrounds to keep little ones amused. There are plenty of loungers around the pools but by late morning there were few left. The management enforce a early morning rule to stop people reserving loungers early and not using them until later in the day. Loungers unoccupied for more than 40 mins have their towels removed (well done this resort). Pool towels are provided with a 10 Euro per towel deposit and can be exchanged for clean ones Tues, Thurs, Sun between 10-12. Entertainment staff are on hand to provide activities throughout the day and there is a show each night. There is a mini club for kids 3 years and upwards.

Thomas Cook
We booked via a travel agent with Thomas Cook and the booking process was simple enough. Sadly any extras after that were a bit of a pain. We’d paid for bookable seats and due to systems issues it took us nearly 2 months to book them. Their airline web site is full of misleading information e.g. The infant 10Kg hold allowance must be in its own case but the site says it can be added to an adults allowance (having to have an extra case is pretty daft). Having a cot was a special request and not guaranteed. As it turned out we had no issue but what would we have done with a 14 month old if we’d have arrived and there hadn’t been one? It was uncomfortable that there was some element of chance here. We also paid for (on the return leg) priority check-in, security & boarding, which took 2 to 3 days to book and the boarding part went poorly. Zoe the on site rep was very helpful and friendly.

Overall this was a really good place to bring the Grandchildren and with the children happy, we were happy. With the exception of the air conditioning issue we were happy with our stay at this resort.
