Bluestone National Park is home to a collection of lodges in a woodland area close to the Pembrokeshire coast. I took a midweek break in November with my husband and father in law. Our accommodation, a Ramsey lodge, far exceeded our expectations with its fully equipped kitchen, comfy leather sofas, TV & DVD player, dining area all upstairs and downstairs two roomy bedrooms, both en suite. The wildlife was right on our doorstep, with cheeky little chaffinches and blue tits virtually tapping on the window for tidbits. There are a number of places to eat on site, although we self catered for two of the four days. The a la carte restaurant Carreg Las was a disappointment as it was billed as adult only after 7 p.m. and there were toddlers at a large family table when we arrived. Not a problem in itself, but as we were paying a premium for an adult experience, a bit grating. My steak was fab but sadly the vegetables were cold. Had the atmosphere been better we would have stayed for drinks and puds, but instead we headed back to the lodge. We didn't try the other eating venues as they were geared towards children and therefore pretty noisy. The Knights Tafarn is the onsite pub, which is advertised as a cosy adult venue. Not so. There are no doors on the bar making it a pretty cold place to drink despite the roaring log fire. Also, it hosts children's entertainment until about 9.30 so again, noisy. The spa is fantastic! Loved, loved, loved it. I drank mulled wine whilst sitting in the outdoor hot tub under the stars. The highlight of my visit. The nature trails are also fabulous and we really enjoyed a hike through the forest. I cannot comment on the water park as we avoided it. Bluestone would be a fabulous place for a girly break with your friends if they had just one adult only venue where you could have a glass of wine and a bite to eat after a lovely spa experience. I think they are missing an opportunity here. I realise the place is geared towards families, however if you look at their advertising, they do seem to want to break into this alternative market.
