Reasons for trip

A few months ago someone recommended the “Blu Duby”:http://www.bluduby.com/ to me as a great restaurant in downtown London, Ontario. I later discovered that there is another one not far from my home and went to the Blu Duby North last night for dinner. It is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. As it was a Tuesday it was not overly busy but our waitress, who was friendly and efficient, said it is usually heaving on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a huge TV screen over the bar but we sat on the opposite side of the restaurant in one of the booths; there are tables as well and a patio outside.

We were spoiled for choice when we looked at the menu; we wanted so many things on it. In addition to meat-centred dishes, there are many choices that are vegetarian and/or vegan to which you can add meat or fish. My friend settled on the mushroom risotto – portobello, crimini and button mushrooms with Parmesan cheese, toasted pine nuts and chive crème fraiche ($21) and added a lamb shank which fell off the bone($8). I had the crispy lentil and mixed bean cakes – with coconut milk and yellow curry sauce, a rice medley and pea shoot, bell pepper and carrot salad ($17) and added seared salmon ($8). I had a taste of the risotto and know it would have been too rich for me to eat as a meal but both dishes were delicious. Mine had just enough kick to it.

The wine list isn’t extensive but there is a good selection of wines by the glass (6 oz and 9 oz) as well as the bottle. I chose a small glass of the Valle Dorado, Cabernet Sauvignon, Curico Valley, Chile, 2014 ($8) which went very well with my meal.

We both chose the lemon tart for dessert ($8). It was small and tart and served with a lovely raspberry sorbet and some berries. It was just the right size so we didn’t leave feeling like we had eaten too much. We’ll definitely be back to try something else on the menu which is the same at both venues.
