We recently spent a week in the Big Island, Hawaii (and yes it is safe to go!). One of our reasons for going, highlights of the week, and frankly, highlights of life so far, was the night Manta dive with Big Island Divers. There is really nothing like sitting on the bottom of the ocean with manta rays the size of cars swooping over your head and doing barrel rolls above you. They are stunningly graceful and gentle creatures, and the artificial lights (that attract the plankton, that attract the mantas!) add an eerily beautiful Star Wars feel to the whole experience. Big Island Divers were very professional, had good equipment and briefed everyone carefully so that everyone knew to respect the wildlife. It is a once in a lifetime experience, and for the non-divers, you can snorkle it from above. In a word, heaven.
