Bicton Park Gardens are such a joy, to be enjoyed alone, with friends or family. There is something for everyone. The botanical gardens date from the 18th century and Bicton itself is about 1,300 years old. The many gardens are stunningly beautiful and different to each other and with each season. A lake with ducks and water fountains is a striking backdrop to the house where refreshments can be enjoyed indoors or outside. If alone, I love to wander through the gardens and around the outer path, resting and contemplating outside the beautiful 19th century hermitage, watching the dragonflies skim over the lake. If with a friend, it's very pleasant to just explore and catch up over a picnic in the grounds (ample benches and tables) or over tea and cake outside the restaurant gazing at the lake. With family, there are two fabulous play areas – an indoor adventure one with safe foam equipment for all ages or in the outdoor adventure park. A ride on the model railway can be enjoyed by all ages as it travels around the gardens. there's even a museum and glasshouses with exotic plants. Why I love this place is that it is so reasonably priced.eg £15 a year for unlimited visits for an over 60. very reasonable family membership too. Membership also includes entry to Morwellham Quay in Tavistock. So, in my opinion, exceptional value and worth considering membership if near there on holiday.
