Reasons for trip

This is a follow on review with more pictures of Beverley, this time concentrating on some of the ‘attractions’. Time was limited this visit so I didn’t have time to visit the “Minster”:http://wasleys.org.uk/eleanor/churches/england/yorkshire/east_riding/east_one/beverley_minster/index.html or “St Mary’s Church,”:http://wasleys.org.uk/eleanor/churches/england/yorkshire/east_riding/east_one/beverley_stmarys/index.html although I did find “Beverley Friary”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/attraction/195345-review-beverley-friary, which is now a Youth Hostel.

The White Horse Inn (affectionately called Nellie’s after the landlady who ran the pub for many years) is C16th. It retains its gas lights and sparse furnishings. This is a real drinkers pub.

For those wanting a touch of class and luxury, there is the upmarket Beverley Arms Hotel, a C17th coaching inn.

County Hall dates from 1906 and was built to house the newly founded East Riding Council. It is a large and impressive building and a sign of Civic pride and importance.

Near it is the “Guildhall”:http://wasleys.org.uk/eleanor/presocialhistory/socialhistory/social/social/beverley_guild/index.html with its neo-classical frontage which has an unspoilt Georgian Courtroom.

In complete contrast architecturally is the Treasure House, a stylish modern building that contains the library, archives, art gallery, local museum, tourist information office and a cafe.
