After a one night stay earlier in the year to check it out, we went to the 2 day New year Gala. Best Western seem to specialise in hotels that do these events exceptionally well and The Pavilion did it superbly. A beautiful, listed building makes for a picturesque setting but makes accessibility problematic; a mention to the staff and everything that is possible is offered promptly, efficiently and with good humour. Our mobility issues are very minor and we are sure that anything can be sorted with the enthusiastic owners and staff.
The Pavilion has all the advantages of association with a large organisation (Best Western Rewards), but retains the intimacy and ambiance of a privately owned and run hotel, steeped in tradition and redolent of the owners’ pride and hard work. The rooms are still in period but have all the modern amenities. A comfortable bed and good food are expected in a hotel of this standard but it goes beyond the required standards.
The Gala evening was a superior example of this type of event, we have been going away for New Year for 15+ years and this one has not been bettered. The room was stunning and the table favours were superb. There was plenty of room between the tables. The food was great and the service excellent. It was served hot and there was sufficient time between courses for comfort and relaxed dining. The entertainment was good and the personal New Year wish as we retired was as welcome as it was surprising.
Easy walking or a frequent(every 10 minutes) bus makes it ideal for exploring York at any time of the year.
It is an easy decision to recommend this hotel.
