We have been looking for "our hotel" in Wien for the last year as we live just far enough away from that beautiful city that a dash in a day isn't really practical, and we need a place to stay the night. Well, we just found it, a hotel that gives the level of service that I have not seen since the time of my elegant grandmother, who always stayed at the best hotels..The hotel itself is elegant without that veneer of nouveau riche that never quite makes the grade..The service is friendly, intelligent and immediate. We were greeted by a witty and friendly multilingual receptionist, and a smiling gentlemanly person arrived immediately for the bags, something one no longer sees often. The room was, again , naturally elegant, with all services provided for that I usually no longer see, from a tea service, rare in Europe, to the wonderful stretch cord if needed for a little handwashing, to beautiful sculpted towels, a big square of chocolate on the pillow etc.. There was also a sauna and steam room, free of charge with tisanes and bathrobes etc included, next to the excercise room, which had apples and dextrose available for those who needed it. The bar library had books in several languages, and interesting ones as well. Every corner was spotlessly clean and every person we met immediately and genuinely friendly. I began to wonder if the staff had shares in the hotel, as they treated us with proprietary pride in the place as if we were welcomed into their home. From the sweet person who did the chambermaid service to the desk staff, all were amusing, kind and delighted we liked the hotel, their hotel. This was more the service one occasionally finds in a 5 star, and not always. Highly recommended. If you come with the usual courtesy… that travellers sometimes forget as well…, you will feel warmly welcome here and at ease. The location is excellent, central but quiet, and near both tram and the central Karlplatz metro station. The famous Secession building is 5 minutes walk as are several other museums.
