“Hotel website”:http://www.bestwesternsiding29.com/

During our recent visit to Canada, my wife and I spent a few days in the Rocky Mountains in Banff. We wanted a hotel that wasn’t too far from the centre, yet not situated in the busy (potentially noisier!) part. This hotel fitted that bill very well, and what’s more it was the only one we considered that offered an inclusive breakfast!

Although its address is Marten Street (all the streets have mountain animal names!), it is in fact on a corner with the main street, Banff Avenue. Access by car is easy – we drove from Calgary along the Trans-Canada Highway 1 and the exit from that road took us directly to the hotel. There is very easy access further along the main street to the town centre, about 5 – 10 minutes, depending on how fast you walk, how many shops you go into on the way, and how icy the pavements are! There is no restaurant at the hotel, however, but it doesn’t take long to walk to the nearest hotels, bars and cafes.

The hotel itself was typical of other ‘mountain-style’ hotels we’ve stayed in, with provision for ski storage in the basement garage, which, if you’re travelling by car, is also useful as it’s heated and free for guests to use. There is a small swimming pool/hot tub for those with aches and pains after an energetic day! Our standard room was comfortable and spacious, with a large bed and a seating area. Microwave, coffee pod machine, and fridge are provided, and there was never a shortage of hot water in the bathroom. The heating (essential in temperatures of -10 to -15) was very efficient.

The inclusive breakfast was also good, with the usual range of cereals, pastries etc. as well as pancakes (with the inevitable maple syrup!) and hot dishes of eggs, bacon, and sausages.

All-in-all, for a mid-range/mid-price hotel, the Best Western was absolutely fine and suited our needs perfectly.
