This hotel is in a fantastic location between the Grand Place and Place Rihour, right in the centre of Lille. We were there during their annual Christmas Market which takes place in Place Rihour, with a giant ferris wheel situated in the Grand Place, so it was very festive too.
The Eurostar terminal is about a 12 minute walk and the old town is right on the doorstep. Bus and walking tours depart from the Tourist Information Centre, literally just around the corner.
The hotel is in an historic building with lots of charming period features. It does, however, include an efficient modern lift and home comforts such as temperature control and tea making facilities. Our room also contained a modern flat screen TV, room safe and mini bar. I was a little surprised not to find an ironing board, although I daresay one would have been made available if I had asked. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to help us.
I travelled with my daughter and we had a spacious twin-bedded room. Oddly the wardrobe was rather small, but for our 1 night stay it was fine. Breakfast was a continental buffet with a good selection of bakery products, fruit, yoghurts, cold meats, cheeses and drinks.
I would recommend NOT paying for an upgrade to a room overlooking the Grand Place, especially not at the weekend unless you intend enjoying the nightlife until around 2am because that's when the square finally quietens down. We were overlooking an inner courtyard and it was lovely and peaceful.
I'm not convinced that this hotel would be suitable for anyone in a wheelchair. Although there is an interior lift there are several steps up to the main entrance and I couldn't see any alternative way in.
