Reasons for trip

We arrived at the “Sugar Hotel”:http://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/accommodation/160065-review-sugar-hotel in Cape Town at 9pm and wanted a quick bite and drink before bed. We were slightly dubious about walking out, but the manager pointed us in the direction of “Beluga”:http://www.beluga.co.za/, which he said was a safe, easy 10 minute walk away. He was right. The restaurant was accessed through a courtyard building called the Foundry which despite being relatively late on a Sunday was absolutely buzzing. Tables and chairs were set outside in the cobbled courtyard and, as the weather was mild, we decided to sit out. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and having established that the restaurant specialised in dim sum and sushi, settled for chicken buns and pork and peanut pot stickers. Bread and oil were available on the tables. We finished with night caps of Amarula (a South African liqueur similar to Baileys).

As the bill had been very respectable the first time, we ventured to Beluga once more but as the evening was much cooler, we sat indoors. Once again, it was buzzing but the service was very professional. We shared a bottle of Greyling Sauvignon Blanc and water. The slow cooked lamb rump with mash and roasted veg turned out to be a huge piece of fabulous looking meat. My mushroom gnocchi with truffle oil and parmesan shavings was excellent. The bill came to SAR420 (£21) with tip.
