This is a real country pub serving a good range of real ales as well as excellent food, right in the centre of this beautiful Wealden village but only 3 miles off the A229 main route.
We ate there on a Saturday lunchtime with daughter, son-in-law and two toddler grandsons. The landlord and landlady were very good with the toddlers as well as bringing them their chicken goujons, chips and peas quickly. The adults chose a range of main courses – full roast turkey dinner, steak and ale pie, Halloumi and tofu burger and cod chips and peas. All of these were served with skin-on chips and veg and all were of a larger than average size. No-one had space for a desert.
The atmosphere was good, warm and friendly. We were there at 12.30 and the clientele gradually increased until the fairly capacious eating area was almost full. I think one would need to book for Sunday lunch. Phone 01580 852415.
