Our local U3A has a group called “Questers” who arrange visits to places of interest that may not normally be seen by the general public. The BBC are obviously are well-versed in taking tours of their studios, and it was a popular choice with our group and the maximum of 30 people took part.
After a short introductory talk while watching the lunchtime edition of their Spotlight news programme, we were shown directly into the studio where the bulletin had just finished. There, still sitting at his desk, was the presenter Justin Leigh who we had only previously seen on out tv sets! He was very welcoming, describing what his job entails, and answering our questions. He didn’t seem to mind giving up a chunk of his lunch hour! We went from the tv studio into the very complex-looking control room, and then to the radio studios where another familiar face from tv – presenter Victoria Graham – was busy on radio duty on their lunchtime phone-in show. From there to the news room, further talks and questions before we went home having had a very interesting afternoon, and for the ladies an exciting one having caught an off-duty glimpse of their favourite weather presenter David Braine!
