We had a short stop-over in Bath on a recent road trip, as my husband had never visited this lovely city. Arriving mid-afternoon at our boutique B&B for the night – the very comfortable and stylish Brindleys (https://www.brindleysbath.co.uk/), we were delighted to be advised that due to a cancellation, we’d been upgraded to the next room category (Room 1)! As we’d brought our own car, parking wasn’t an issue either – you can park in any of the on-street residential spaces and Brindleys will provide a temporary parking pass to put in your windscreen.
It’s a short walk from Brindleys to the city centre, so after we’d unpacked and had a cup of tea, we set off to explore. Bath is a very walkable city, and within about 25 minutes, passing Parade Gardens, the Pump House, and the Roman Baths, we’d reached Royal Crescent, a very elegant Georgian terrace with a wide expanse of gardens in front. From here you can walk to Victoria Park, or retrace your steps past the tennis courts, crazy golf and a temporary summer set-up for Bath on the Beach (https://www.bathonthebeach.co.uk/), back towards Parade Gardens and along the river Avon to famous Pulteney Bridge. We crossed the bridge and walked towards the Holburne Museum (https://www.holburne.org/) – the front of which doubles as the home of Lady Danbury in Bridgerton, while the rear of the building is totally 21st century!
Behind the Holburne are lovely Sidney Gardens, with a secret gateway onto the canal path of the Avon and Kennet Canal – an unexpected surprise! We meandered our way along this peaceful and pretty walkway, hidden from the bustle of the city, back to our B&B for a glass of wine.
Our dinner that evening was a tasty and authentic Nepalese curry at Yak Yeti Yak (https://www.yakyetiyak.co.uk/) a long-established and popular Bath eatery, and just a short walk away. After a good night’s sleep and an excellent Brindley’s breakfast, we set off on the next leg of our travels, having thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay in Bath – definitely a place to visit again and hopefully stay a little longer!
