Back in December I spotted an offer for Parkdean Resorts, 4 nights in a static caravan, at a really good price. So I booked 4 nights at Barmston Bay, near Bridlington.

It was our first time in a static caravan and we were really impressed. The first one was only a month old and had probably been used once before us. It was a caravan adapted for people with disabilities and had a huge wet room, a large master bedroom with zip link beds and a hoist, and a twin room. The caravan was warm and cosy with comfortable seating, a large screen TV and a well equipped kitchen. Access was via a ramp and this caravan was a pet free option.

The location was near Bridlington which was a revelation. A lovely seaside town with a fantastic beach. There’s an old town of Bridlington too which is inland and is where many scenes from the most recent Dad’s Army film were shot.

We had some great walks along the beach from the site. There are a number of cliff top caravan sites, and the coastal erosion is very visible. One of our walks took us to Mr Moo’s ice cream parlour at Skipsea which is recommended.

The site has a restaurant and has some live entertainment, but we were happy to walk during the day and have quiet evenings in our cosy caravan. There’s a shop too for any essentials. You need to take towels, toiletries, soap, washing up liquid, oven gloves, extra loo rolls and food and drink unless you are eating out all the time.

There was a pub in Barmston village which serves food and a bus service- timetables at reception, but it wasn’t too frequent.

We found it a great base for exploring a lovely coastline. We’ll definitely consider this kind of holiday again as a great base.
